A Tribute To Harry

HarryAtMagnuson[1] In my people yoga classes, around this time of year (Halloween, Day of the Dead), I teach a class honoring the cycle of life and death by remembering those who have passed and practicing in their honour. This year I honour the memory of Handsome Harry, my most senior dogi student.
Harry passed away September 30, he was just about 15 years old. Harry was a regular student for a long time and I loved having his gentle energy in class. His mom, Angela rescued him when he was seven. I’m saddened by his passing and Honey, Gus and I will miss him.
The brevity of our dog’s lives can really teach us to treasure each moment we have with them and to love now. Perhaps this is one reason why their time on earth is so brief, so that we can learn to appreciate the cycle of life and death and the importance of each moment we have with our loved ones, whether they be canine, feline or human.

In memory of Handsome Harry,

Back From Mexico!

Hola! I’ve returned from a fabulous trip to Zihuatenajo, where I swam, sunned, spent time with friends and sought out the local Humane Society. (Do other people seek out dog shelters on their vacations or is it just me? Seriously this isn’t the first time, ie… if you’re ever in London check out The Battersea Dog Home, it’s cool).
We stayed at an old school beach hotel called “The Catalina”, a simple, clean, beautiful, mid-century “resort” built on a lush hillside that stair-steps down to the beach. Good prices and much of the staff have been there forever. It’s owned by a German woman who was married to a Mexican man who recently passed away.
The owner rescued a dog while we were there and was nursing it back to health with the help of a local vet. It had a pretty bad case of mange and seemed to be less than a year old. Happily, before we left, one of the staff agreed to take him in after he returned to good health. It pleased everyone in our group of friends staying there to give business to a dog friendly and animal compassionate hotel (there were also several well cared for cats and another dog living on the premises).
Well, that’s all for now, I’ll continue my brain-storming on making the world a better place for animals and humans and I’ll get back to you!

Cheers,
Brenda, Honey, Gus and Nelson
P.S. The picture is me with a baby chihuahua in a mexican market. I know I look like a dork, but the dog is kinda cute, right?mexicochihuahua
